Bookmakers by country, on one globe

Bookmakers differ from one country to the next, because a betting licence is local. Every country has its own list of betting sites, with the licence a brand holds there, the bonus it advertises and the payment methods it takes.

Gambling regulators and the registers they publish

A betting licence is local: it comes from the regulator of one country, state or province. These are the registers with the most listed brands.

Bookmakers by country: common questions

What is a bookmaker?

A bookmaker is a company that sets odds on sports and other events and accepts bets at those odds. Online, the same business is usually called a betting site or sportsbook. Many also run a casino, poker or a betting exchange, and each country page shows which products a brand offers there.

Why are bookmakers different in every country?

Betting is licensed country by country, and in some places state by state. In regulated markets a brand needs a local licence, and often a separate website, for each country it enters, so the list for Germany looks nothing like the list for Nigeria. Local brands that never left their home market fill the rest of each list.

What does “documented offer” mean?

It means the operator itself publishes a product or service for that country: a local website, terms that name the country, payment methods in the local currency or a country bonus page. A “register entry” means the brand appears in the regulator’s register. The two are shown separately because a licence and a live offer are not the same thing.

What does “no local licence listed” mean?

It means no entry for the brand was found in that country’s register, or the country does not publish one. It says nothing more than that. International brands often operate under a licence from another jurisdiction, which is listed on the brand’s page when the operator states it.

Can I open an account with a bookmaker from another country?

It depends on where you live, not where the bookmaker is based. Betting sites usually ask for your country of residence when you register, and many accept customers only from the markets they serve. The page for your country lists the brands that take players there.

Who regulates bookmakers?

A national gambling regulator in most countries. In federal countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia and Nigeria, states or provinces issue licences of their own, so a licence there covers one state or province rather than the whole country.

Betting is for adults only

Decide what you can afford to lose before you bet and stop when you reach it. Many licensed bookmakers offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion in the account settings.
